Bored Influencer Impulsively Buys House, Begs Fans for Help Paying for It

Influencer impulsively buys a house and doesn't know how she's going to pay for it.

Jordyn McCroskey thought it would be great to have her parents as neighbors, so when she saw a house up for auction on their street, she decided to bid. But panic set in when she won and bid way more than she wanted to. In a series of videos, the influencer explains how she "accidentally" bought a house, and she's worried about paying for it, so she's asking people to donate to her GoFundMe account.

"I Need Extreme Therapy"

In the first clip captioned, "I need extreme therapy," McCroskey is frantic and asks viewers how to tell her dad she bought a house. "Can someone please tell me how I'm going to tell my dad that I impulsively just placed a bid on a house? I got really bored last night, so I was looking at this house. It's actually on my parent's street, and I was like, 'I'm going to place a bid on this house because the starting bid is $25,000, that's it.

In the same TikTok, McCroskey yells, "I don't know what's wrong with me. I'm literally ill," and pounds her head with her fist. She explained that someone bid against her, which made her want to bid higher. "Now I have to bid higher knowing damn well I have no roommates or any money saved for a downpayment, or however an action works. I literally have no idea." She went on to say that the bidding war became "a game" to her. She ended up bidding $82,000 and said, 'I'm going to have to find a second job now."

Dreaded a Lecture From Her Dad

In a follow up video, McCroskey revealed how scared she was to tell her dad about bidding on the house. "My parents both know how impulsive I am. I just didn't want the lecture. I wasn't going to ask him for $82,000."

While McCroskey was terrified to share the news with her parents, their reaction surprised her. "They were honestly actually kind of excited for me because it is right down the street from them." She then finally revealed that she did "win the auction."

She Was Already Pre-Approved

McCroskey explained that she was already pre-approved for a house, but bidding in an auction was never her plan. However, she is excited about her new path. "Even though I was being impulsive and dumb, thinking I was going to bid them up, it was a steal of a lifetime with the market where it is."

She added how some issues make the process challenging and said the bank told her  a Federal Housing Agreement (FHA) loan wouldn't cover the house unless it was "renovated beforehand for safety reasons, even though these small things are not going to affect me living there."

McCroskey told viewers that she's in a tough position because she can't get the loan unless certain repairs are done to the house, and she doesn't have the money. "They will not give me the loan unless these minor things are fixed beforehand. The only way I can get a loan to buy this house is if the bank that is selling the house agrees to fix these things. Otherwise, I do have to come up with an earnest money deposit, which is around $6,000."

She ended the video by saying, "I will be linking my GoFundMe in my bio. Don't feel obligated to help me. You don't have to. But, if you'd like to stick around and follow me, then you can watch me renovate the house."

Over 1.1 million people watched the TikTok where McCroskey said she linked her GoFundMe account in her bio, and many commenters were not amused. "Is this a joke? So you bid a house you couldn't afford a few thousand to put down worse case now you made a go fund me😭… pls tell me this is satire," someone wrote.

"Asking people to donate to your go fund me when most people are struggling month to month is so out of touch," another wrote. "A go fund me for ur own mistake?" someone questioned. Someone else responded, "I mean mentioning a gofundme to help with your reckless decision is a bit of an eye roll. But you do you!"

McCroskey Addressed the Haters

There have been several updates from McCroskey, but in one TikTok, she explained more about the auction and addressed inaccuracies about what people have said about her. She stated that her family is "not rich" and isn't giving her money, and the only reason she started a GoFundMe account was that people asked her to.

"I only made a GoFundMe because people were asking me for one. I can find humor in my stupidity, but there are a lot of Karens on the internet that are going to be like, 'Oh my God she's going to burn our country down.' She added, "The only difference between me and you is that I will admit to being an idiot sometimes." She continued to say that everyone makes mistakes, but it's "important to take risks, or you'll miss out on opportunities."

People are Showing Support

While McCroskey received critical comments for her impulsive behavior, there's been a lot of support from excited viewers asking to see the house. So far, there's been no images or video of the house, but people are cheering her on. "GIRL YES! TAKE RISKS! I moved my family from OR to AZ to start a new job, on a whim. Only had a month to prepare! We moved ended up getting approved," one commenter wrote. Another person wanted to donate.

"Tell us what the go fund me is under I would love to donate," but McCroskey responded, "That's super sweet, but I got too much hate when I put one up bc others asked. Thank you for the thought though 💓"  Someone else wrote, "I think you got an amazing deal and you're going to love your new home. Even if it was an accident! 😂"
