Trump Showed Documents to Guests, Says Ex-Press Secretary. "I Watched Him."
Stephanie Grisham confirms.
Donald Trump is no stranger to controversy. The former President of the United States, who plans on running again in 2024, is currently facing a 37-count indictment after documents were found by the FBI at his Mar-a-Lago home in the summer of 2022. If convicted, he could face up to 75 years behind bars. According to the Department of Justice, they found the classified documents in places like "a ballroom, a bathroom and shower, an office space, his bedroom, and a storage room." Now, a former Trump administration press secretary claims she saw him showing these classified documents to guests at his home.
Stephanie Grisham, who worked with Trump during his presidency, told MSNBC over the weekend that she witnessed his showing these classified documents to people. She also slammed him for his lack of respect.
"I watched him show documents to people at Mar-a-Lago on the dining room patio," Grisham told MSNBC, adding that she didn't approve of the actions. "He has no respect for classified information [and] never did."
She referenced a recently surfaced audio tape of Trump discussing and seemingly showing off "highly confidential" and "secret" documents to a writer, a publisher and two members of his staff at his New Jersey golf course in July 2021. "You know, listening to that exchange every time, it just makes me so angry. He talks specifically that he should have declassified it, but he didn't. So there, I think, is proof," she continued.
"I believe also there's a portion of that audio where he says, you know, this is off the record. And I know Donald Trump knows the rules of reporters and he knows if it needs to be off the record that they can't talk about it. So I think he was covering himself in that regard," she added.
She also pointed out that these actions could have endangered people. "I think that, you know, I can't stress enough how by being so loose with this stuff, he's potentially putting people in danger," Grisham said.
"And yeah, I had a top security clearance and it's very, very hard to obtain. So it's very important and it's vital to our country and our national security. The only people with these clearances have access to any of these documents," said Grisham.
"I would say it was bravado, if you want to know the truth, it was bravado," Trump said in an interview with Semafor and ABC News. "I was talking and just holding up papers and talking about them, but I had no documents. I didn't have any documents."
