McDonald's Workers Share Their "Worst Customer" Stories
From being stalked to having hot coffee thrown on them.
Hard work, little pay and no respect. It's a tough combo that many fast food workers are faced with. Flipping burgers and working a drive-thru isn't easy by any means, yet people employed by fast food chains are often unfairly demeaned. Between the low wages, bitter customers and quick-paced environment, working a fast food job can be emotionally, mentally and physically draining. To vent their frustration and reveal what it's really like to work at a fast food joint, McDonald's employees are sharing on TikTok and Reddit the worst thing a customer has done to them and their responses are shocking.
In a TikTok that's getting a lot of attention, creator Aine (@aine.fazz) approached each of her co-workers and a manager to share some horror stories in the clip. The first person she spoke with was Emel who gave a horrible account of a customer throwing hot coffee on her. "It was a man throwing hot coffee at me saying it wasn't hot, but he burnt my chest," she said. "So, I don't know how it wasn't hot, but it was a fresh pot, hun."
Next up, Aine asked her manager Taya what's something cruel a customer had done to her and she shared how passive aggressive one man was towards her, "Okay, this one time the guy made me cry on the phone, and then there's the other time when I was like explaining to this guy how mobile orders work, but he didn't believe me. This was in the drive-thru,' Taya explained. "So he called his wife, who was at home, to speak to me through her phone, through the drive-thru, to yell at me about how stupid I was and how I didn't know how to do my job."
Not only do employees have to deal with unruly customers, but fear for their safety at times too. In the clip, a young female employee revealed she was working at the drive-thru and was harassed by two men who threatened to hold up the line if she didn't give them her number. "My worst customer story is these two guys came to the drive-thru in their 20s, and I was 15," another coworker said. "They came through and asked for my number, and I said, 'no.' Then they came back and sat in the drive-thru, and would not leave until I gave them some sort of personal information."
In a Subreddit thread for McDonald's employees, people shared their wild stories with customers and one person had so many they wrote several, which included how one man who got so mad he wouldn't be served when he walked up to the drive-thru that he threw food at cars. "Someone decided to walk through the drive through at about 3am and when we wouldn't sell to him (because obviously we can't unless they have a motorized vehicle) he decided to walk off to a nearby gas station, buy a bunch of items then sit in front of our second window and throw food at passing cars until we called the cops on him."
One Redditor shared how a customer crossed the line by getting physical. "Got headbutted by a drunk. A few weeks later a group came behind the counter and destroyed everything in the grill, and assaulted several employees. I quit after that."
Another person on Reddit explained how a troublesome customer tried to break the windows because the manager wouldn't refill her coffee. "I just arrived and there was someone at the drive thru window complaining that we wouldn't refill her coffee cup," the person shared. "The manager eventually tells her to [leave] and locks the window. I go into the kitchen, and a few moments later I just hear this loud banging. I go back to the window and she's pretty much throwing her entire body weight at it." The person added. "She eventually decides to try the other windows, all the while screaming about her human rights (no I'm not kidding, and no I have no idea what she meant by that either). The last thing I saw of her before the police arrived was her ripping a sign off drive thru and attempting to rip it in half."
Someone else in the Reddit subgroup shared how a customer said he left his food on the table to use the restroom and it was thrown away. He asked for more food, but they knew he was lying. "I looked at the receipt that he had and noticed that it said 12 pm but he came in at 3 pm," the person wrote. "I asked how long it was, he said he bought it 20 minutes ago. That was the moment I knew he was a liar and just wanted free food. I told my manager the problem and they had a vocal fight for more than 30 minutes until we decided to have him free food so he left. I absolutely hate when people lie."
