5 Times Prince William Allegedly Got So Angry, He Lost His Cool

Even the cool-as-a-cucumber heir loses his cool on occasion.

Prince William is known for his even-keel demeanor and cool-as-a-cucumber public persona. While his brother, Prince Harry, is known to get emotional and angry, the future King of England rarely raises an eyebrow during appearances, and very few negative stories circulate about him. However, like anyone else, Prince William has his moments. And, according to reports, there are a handful of times he has publicly gotten so angry, he lost his cool.

In one of the most shocking excerpts from his memoir Spare, Prince Harry recollects an argument at Kensington Palace he had with Prince William that turned physical. According to Harry, his brother called his wife, Meghan Markle, "difficult," "rude," and "abrasive."

William "grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and … knocked me to the floor," Harry writes, claiming he was left with visible cuts and bruises on his back.

According to media reports, Prince William lost his cool with cameramen when his three children rode bikes around Sandringham. "You were out here looking for us," William yells at a cameraman in a since-deleted clip that went viral.

"When it comes to his family, [William] is a lion. He was out on the Sandringham estate when they were all having a bike ride. A photographer was seen. The cameraman didn't have his camera out, but William went steaming over and really ripped him off and told him what he thought, and the police moved him on," commentator Robert Jobson said on True Royalty's The Royal Beat.

"He is fiercely protective of his children, and that's right. Everyone has their moments. You can't be this perfect couple all the time in public."

William also stood up for his wife, Kate Middleton, went photos of her sunbathing were published in 2012. At the time, the couple was vacationing at a secluded chateau in France. Unbeknownst to them, paparazzi were lurking in the bushes, and photos were sold to Closer.

"Their Royal Highnesses have been hugely saddened to learn that a French publication and a photographer have invaded their privacy in such a grotesque and totally unjustifiable manner. The incident is reminiscent of the worst excesses of the press and paparazzi during the life of Diana, Princess of Wales, and all the more upsetting to the duke and duchess for being so. Their Royal Highnesses had every expectation of privacy in the remote house. It is unthinkable that anyone should take such photographs, let alone publish them," the couple fumed in a statement.

In 2021, an angered Prince William gave a passionate speech on social media surrounding the infamous interview his late mother did with BBC's Panorama. He lashed out at journalist Martin Bashir, calling him "rogue" and referring to the BBC as "invasive" and "deceitful."

He added that the BBC's "failures contributed significantly to [Princess Diana's] fear, paranoia, and isolation that [he] remember[s] from those final years with her."

When Discussing Privacy Violations

Prince William lashed out at social media in 2018. "I am very concerned though that on every challenge they face – fake news, extremism, polarisation, hate speech, trolling, mental health, privacy, and bullying – our tech leaders seem to be on the back foot," the Duke of Cambridge said.

"Their self-image is so grounded in their positive power for good that they seem unable to engage in constructive discussion about the social problems that they are creating," he said.
