The Real Reason Why Prince Harry is Attending the Coronation Without Meghan, According to Insiders
Here is everything you need to know about why Harry is traveling to the UK solo for his dad’s big day.
Ever since the date of King Charles' Coronation was set, the question on everyone's mind has been whether Prince Harry and Meghan Markle would be invited – and if they did receive an invitation, would they attend? Last month the couple's spokesperson announced that the couple had in fact received an invitation. However, only Harry would be RSVP'ing yes. According to a new report, there is a good reason that Harry is hitting the big event solo.
King Charles Is Happy Both His Sons Will Be at the Coronation
According to The Telegraph, King Charles is happy that both of his sons will be attending the Coronation on Saturday. And, the sources say that Harry is going as a "personal" decision instead of a "PR" move.
Sources have claimed that Harry spent weeks deciding whether or not he would go to the ceremony, as he has been virtually estranged from them ever since the publication of his tell-all, Spare, and his media tour promoting it.
Harry Decided to Because It Is "Immensely Important" for His Dad
"Despite a turbulent few months, Harry is acutely aware that the historic occasion will be immensely important for the King," The Telegraph reports. "Although he had been holding out for peace talks with his family, he had decided to attend the Coronation regardless," they add.
"It is about showing up, showing support and being there for his father," one source said. "It was a very personal decision, not a PR one."
According to the publication, Harry doesn't expect to have any "personal conversations" with his dad on the day of the event, "aware that it is not the time or the place," they report. "He is also not expecting to have any meaningful conversations with the Prince and Princess of Wales."
He Left Meghan at Home Because Her Presence "Could Have Proved Controversial"
According to the publication, the main reason Meghan isn't attending is due to Archie's fourth birthday. "The Duke and Duchess are also understood to have been aware that Meghan's presence at the Coronation could have proved controversial and were keen to avoid attracting negative attention," they add.
While Harry is attending the Coronation, he isn't expected to have an official role in it. He will be sitting with his "wider family" at Westminster Abbey. And, because he isn't a working member of the family, he will not be on the balcony of Buckingham Palace for the flypast and it is unlikely that he will be able to wear his military uniform.
Sources also tell the publication that Harry won't be attending other royal events over the weekend. They also report that he will likely stay at Frogmore Cottage, the home he and Meghan were recently evicted from.
