Mets Fan Falls 12 Feet Over Railing Onto Field
The biggest action at the Mets vs. Giants game was a fan falling onto the field.
If you have ever been to a Major League Baseball game, you have likely witnessed die-hard (or simply drunk!) fans hanging over the railing at all levels. However, it isn't every day that you witness a fan falling over the railings and onto the field. On Sunday night, this exact incident occurred at Citi Field as the New York Mets played the San Francisco Giants.
According to onlookers, during the bottom of the fifth inning, a fan accidentally fell from 12 feet above and landed on the field. While the broadcast didn't capture footage of the fall, cameras did get the man standing by the wall holding his face in pain.
The game was paused for nearly two minutes as security assessed the situation. However, it doesn't appear that he sustained any serious injurieis.
By the top of the sixth inning, he was back in his seats with friends and didn't appear to have any cuts or bruises on his face. However, he was wearing a hat and sunglasses.
"I'm sitting right next to him. No one has a video of him falling but I have a vid of him on the field," tweeted baseball fan Jake Mattessich.
In another video, commentators can be heard discussing the fall, estimating the fall to be around ten to 12 feet and saying he put his hands up to show security he wasn't trying to disturb the game.
"Strange scene at Citi Field. Sunday's game between the Giants and Mets was temporarily delayed so security could help a fan — who had apparently hurt himself falling onto the field — off," the tweet read.
They later shared a video of the same guy, in great spirits as he hung out with his friends in the stands. In it, he appears to be discussing his fall with them. "All seems to be well with the fan, who's back in the stands with quite a story to tell," they captioned it.
