Natalee Holloway Suspect Joran Van Der Sloot is Divorcing His Wife for "Younger, Prettier" Girlfriend
The murderer is trying to divorce his wife and the mother of his daughter.
While "homicidal tendencies" isn't a box that most people would check off when looking for a romantic partner, some women, and men are actually attracted to violent people, even murderers. Hybristophilia is a recognized medical condition where an individual, usually a woman, gets intensely aroused by a man who has committed notorious crimes. This is why even convicted killers get married while serving a sentence.
Joran van der Sloot, convicted of killing Stefany Flores and the longtime murder suspect in the death of Natalee Holloway, is one of the many criminals who found a wife while incarcerated. However, according to a new report, he is planning on divorcing her for a "prettier and younger" girlfriend.
Joran van der Sloot's attorney, Maximo Altez, has revealed that his client is attempting to divorce his wife and the mother of his child, Leidy Figueroa. He is doing so because he is in a relationship with Eva Pacohuanaco, a "prettier and younger" girlfriend previously accused of smuggling him drugs.
Joran met Leidy, who is now 33, while she was selling concessions to inmates at his prison. They married at Piedras Gordas prison in July 2014, four years into his 28-year sentence for the 2010 murder of Stephany Flores.
Two months after the jailhouse wedding, Joran and his bride welcomed a daughter, Dusha Trudie Van der Sloot.
Figueroa previously told the Daily Mail that her new husband was "gentle, sensitive, kind" and "no monster." Joran wrote her love letters in prison, promising to buy his wife "your own house, better say our house."
However, according to Altex, Figueroa was simply the "most loyal" of several women who courted his client in prison. "Joran had a bunch of girlfriends," he said, adding that his client "still writes to girls and they send him pictures."
Per Altex, the van der Sloot marriage started to deteriorate in 2020 after the murderer was accused of bringing drugs into jail with Pacohuanaco. "Leidy continued seeing him for a while," he added.
She "still visits" as she "likes the punishment" and"'is nothing without" her husband, who helps her financially through family money.
However, a year ago, van der Sloot asked for a divorce because of his relationship with "prettier and younger" Pacohuanaco, 24, according to the lawyer.
When he informed her, she became angry. "She asked me: 'How could you?!' You were the Godfather of our marriage. She got mad. And she's partly right," he told The Daily Mail.
