Hotel Guest Fears He Had Smelly Feet, Turns Out It Was Body Under His Bed

A night in a hotel turns into a scene from a horror movie.

A man staying at a hotel in Tibet discovered a body under his bed—only after fearing the strong odor was coming from his feet. The man was staying at the Guzang Shuhua Inn, a social media hotspot. But for him, it was the set of a horror movie.

"I am very scared and I am still struggling to sleep," he told Shangyou News on April 30. Read on to find out how the body was discovered, what the hotel's saying about it, and what the man plans to do next.

Thought Smell Was His Own Feet

The man, identified by local media only as Zhang, said he checked into the room on April 21. Noticing the smell, he rested for a few hours before leaving at around 3:30. When he returned to the room to change for dinner, Zhang noticed the smell again.

He thought it could have been caused by the room's heating system, the hotel's bakery, or his own feet. After he got back from dinner, the smell was so strong he requested a room change, which didn't happen right away, the UK Telegraph reported.

After Zhang tried to sleep for three hours with limited success, hotel employees knocked on his door late at night to move him to a different room, he said. The body was discovered under the bed shortly thereafter.

"That's when I found out there was a murder in this hotel, and the deceased had been lying under the bed for several days," he told Shangyou News. The hotel denied the incident altogether. Zhang told local media that he publicized the incident because the hotel refused to acknowledge it.

Police took Zhang's DNA and interviewed him, but he said he was told a suspect connected to the death had been arrested. Investigators haven't released more information, but a video was shared of a suspect being arrested on a train to Lanzhou, the Telegraph reported.

According to the South China Morning Post, Hongxing News quoted staff of the hotel as saying it had shut for renovation, not because of an alleged murder. Their report also quoted police stationed near the hotel confirming it had been closed for upgrades.

Reached by the South China Morning Post, the man, who said his actual surname was Sun, said he'd been traumatized by the incident: "Every night, I can't sleep well," he said. "If there is any sound I wake up very easily. This has affected my life and work."

The man said the hotel hadn't reached out to him since his post went viral. "I hope the hotel will give me a statement. If it continues [to stay silent], I will definitely take legal action," Sun told the SCMP.
