The Real Reason Queen Elizabeth Allegedly "Firmly Denied" Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's "Inappropriate" Request
It had to do with real estate.
The Royal Family is not just like us in many regards, including matters of real estate. While most people go house hunting and buy the home they want to live in, the royals are generally "gifted" properties by the reigning monarch. Windsor Castle, home to members of the blue-blooded family for nearly 1,000, has housed many high-profile members throughout history. Most recently, the late Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip resided on the property, as did the Prince and Princess of Wales, and Prince Andrew with his ex-wife Fergie.
However, when it came time to choose a home for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the former Suits star reportedly made an "inappropriate request" to the late Queen.
When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were in the process of planning their wedding, they were also figuring out where they were going to live. After all, at the time, they were working members of the Royal Family.
According to reports, the couple requested to live within Windsor Castle, asking if "living quarters could be made available after their marriage." However, at the time they asked, only the Queen and her husband resided in a private apartment in the castle. The other members of the family lived on the estate.
However, the Queen deemed it "inappropriate" for the couple and "firmly" rejected the request. She went on to "politely but firmly" suggest the couple lives in Frogmore Cottage instead.
Katie Nicholl, in her book The New Royals, described the Frogmore as a "big deal" and hoped that the couple would "respect" her generosity. "The cottage was a big deal. The Queen's entrance into the gardens is right next to their cottage. It is essentially her back yard, her solitude, and her privacy," she said.

However, she was willing to make a sacrifice to give the couple a good home. "She was giving that up in gifting Harry and Meghan Frogmore Cottage. We all thought it was very big of her. She said, 'I hope they'll respect it.'" Little did the Queen know that the couple wouldn't be living at Frogmore very long before their Megxit from the United Kingdom.
