These outpatient facilities, in which people often go home the same day, "have become a cornerstone of modern health care," says Newsweek. "Unlike more intricate surgeries performed in hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers offer streamlined care focusing on efficiency and patient comfort." The news outlet recently partnered with the research firm Statista to name the nation's best ambulatory surgery centers. They looked at a variety of metrics and scored more than 500 facilities on a scale of 100. These are the centers that ranked #1 in states in which a top pick was cited.
With an overall score of 84.4% out of 100, Surgery Partners – Birmingham Surgery Center took the top spot in Alabama.
Scoring 84.1%, United Surgical Partners International – Dignity Health – St. Joseph's Outpatient Surgery Center was tops in Arizona.
Premier Gastroenterology – Premier Surgery Center in Little Rock scored 78.91%, enough to take top honors in Arkansas.
With a score of 94.12%, Cedars Sinai – 90210 Surgery Medical Center in Beverly Hills was found to be the top ambulatory surgery center in the Golden State.
With a rating of 83.58%, HCA Healthcare – Midtown Surgical Center in Denver was named the best place for ambulatory surgery in Colorado.
In the Constitution State, SCA Health – Bloomfield Ambulatory Surgery Center in Bloomfield was tops with a score of 83.34%.
Wilmington's SCA Health – Limestone Surgery Center was rated best in the state, with a 81.78% score.
Coral Gables Surgery Center of Miami was found to be the best facility in the Sunshine State, scoring 87.69%.
With an overall score of 84.4%, Emory Healthcare – Ambulatory Surgery Center in Atlanta took the top spot in Georgia.
In Hawaii, Kaiser Permanente – Hilo Community Surgery Center was #1 with a score of 78.97%.
With a 85.67% score, Millennium Surgery Center of Meridian was found to be the best.
Rush SurgiCenter in Chicago was rated the best ambulatory surgery center in the state, with an 85.55% score.
IU Health – Ball Memorial Outpatient Surgery Center in Muncie scored 81.81%, taking the top spot in Indiana.
With a rating of 80.57%, Iowa City Ambulatory Surgical Center was named the best place for ambulatory surgery in Iowa.
The University of Kansas Health System – KU MedWest, Medical Pavilion in Shawnee came in tops in Kansas, scoring 85.42%.
With a score of 83.02%, Baptist Health – Surgery Center in Lexington was the top-rated facility in Kentucky.
Advanced Surgical Care Of Baton Rouge scored 84.06%, ranking #1 in the state.
With a rating of 86.63%. Johns Hopkins Health Care & Surgery Center – White Marsh in Nottingham was named the best ambulatory facility in Maryland.
Advanced Eye Centers – Advanced Eye Surgery Center North Dartmouth was the top-rated facility in the state, with an 82.47% rating.
Munson Healthcare – Copper Ridge Surgery Center in Traverse City scored 83.68%, taking the top spot in Michigan.
M Health – Fairview Clinics and Surgery Center – Maple Grove scored 84.58%, coming in #1 in Minnesota.
With a rating of 78.68% North Mississippi Health Services – North Mississippi Surgery Center in Tupelo was named the best place for ambulatory surgery in Mississippi.
Saint Luke's – East Hospital Surgery Center in Lee's Summit scored 78.41%, enough to take the top spot in the Show-Me State.
Summit Surgery Center in Butte was the top-rated facility in the state, with an 82.05% score.
Nebraska Surgery Center in Lincoln was named #1 in the Cornhusker State, scoring 83.55%.
Southwest Medical Surgery Center at W. Charleston Las Vegas was found to be the best facility in Nevada, with an 84.68% score.
With a rating of 85.72%, Bedford Ambulatory Surgical Center was named the best place for ambulatory surgery in New Hampshire.
With a 86.33% score, SCA Health – Surgical Center of South Jersey in Mount Laurel was #1 in New Jersey.
Gramercy Surgery Center – New York in New York City came in tops in the Empire State, with a rating of 86.72%.
In North Carolina, Duke Health – Davis Ambulatory Surgical Center in Durham was #1, with a 88.15% score.
In Ohio, SCA Health – Dublin Surgery Center in Dublin was ranked best, with a 83.66% rating.
United Surgical Partners International – Memorial Surgery Center in Tulsa scored 82.96%, taking the top spot in Oklahoma.
With a rating of 80.66%, SCA Health – McKenzie Surgery Center in Eugene was named the best place for ambulatory surgery in Oregon.
With an 86.49% score, Abington Surgical Center in Willow Grove was ranked best in Pennsylvania.
SCA Health – Charleston Surgery Center in Summerville rated 82.23%, enough to secure the top spot.
In Tennessee, Methodist Germantown Surgery Center is the top facility, scoring 84.97%.
With a rating of 85.6%, Baylor Scott & White SurgiCare – Dallas was named the best place for ambulatory surgery in Texas.
The researchers named Intermountain Health – McKay-Dee Surgery Center in Ogden as the state's best, giving it an 82.26% score.
In Vermont, Green Mountain Surgery Center in Colchester is #1, with an 83.98% rating.
HCA Healthcare – Reston Surgery Center was named best in Virginia, scoring 82.04%.
Kirkland's Proliance Surgeons – Proliance Eastside Surgery Center ranked tops in Washington state, with an 82.82% rating.
