Influencer Mocks Man on Date Who Can't Afford Menu Item at Chili's and Internet is Fuming

People are disgusted at the public mockery.

TikTok users are expressing their disgust at someone who openly mocked a couple at Chili's for not being able to afford certain items on the menu. The content creator made a video detailing the conversation he overheard, where a man told his date he didn't have enough money for the food she wanted to order.

"This is Chili's, everything is $18 and under. So I'm mad with him, I'm definitely mad with him," the influencer says. Here's what people had to say about him shaming the man.

Listening In On Conversation

The influencer, known as Messie Cee, took the video while inside a Chili's restaurant. He and his friends were sitting near a couple at the bar, and he recounted the conversation he overheard between the couple. According to Cee, the man couldn't afford something on the menu for his date, which provoked ridicule from the content creator.

Cee mocks the man for not being able to order what his date wanted. "We in Chili's, me and my crew and them on the side of me," the influencer said in the video. "She wanted to order something. Her man said, 'You can't get that I don't have enough money for that." The couple were sitting just a few feet away and might have overheard Cee.

Cee crudely suggests the man should be dumped for not having enough money. "Ain't no way my husband would take me to Chili's and I can't get whatever I want," Cee said. "This ain't even Ruth Chris [Steakhouse]. This is Chili's, everything is $18 and under. So I'm mad with him, I'm definitely mad with him."

Public Backlash

One content creator pointed out that times are hard for many people. "This video is so sad, so disappointing to see," says fitfluencer Joey "Swoll" Sergo, founder of GymPositivity. "Times are hard for a lot of people, there's a lot of couples out there that can't afford to go out and eat tonight. I know how that feels, I've been that guy. How about you be grateful that you have enough money to buy what you want on that menu, to take care of your friends, your loved ones, instead of shaming this man. I can't believe people think this is OK to do to another human being today. You need to do better, mind your own business."

The reaction to the viral video is overwhelmingly negative towards the poster. "Man, you're at Chilis acting fancy," one person said. "This video brought tears to my eyes. How can you berate someone like this for not being able to afford a meal? God, please help them!" another user said. "Instead of shaming them, offer to buy them dinner!" said another.
