Man Dressed in Hasidic Disguise to Kill Reformed Convict in Botched Robbery, Say Police

Ron Reeder of Teaneck and two accomplices face multiple felony charges in the death of Jermaine Dixon.

Police charged a New Jersey man suspected of wearing Hasidic-style clothing to ambush a reformed murderer, shoot him in the back of the head and kill him in a botched robbery attempt in New York City in 2021. The shocking crime was caught on surveillance video and posted on Twitter. Ron Reeder, 53, was arrested in Teaneck, New Jersey, last month, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said in a news release. Police also arrested two other people on a litany of felony charges. Jermaine Dixon, the man who was killed, was just putting his life back together after 30 years in prison. Here's what you need to know about this brutal crime.

Who Was the Victim?

Jermaine Dixon, 46, had been released from prison less than a year before his death. He was a former member of the Patio Crew in Brooklyn and was sentenced to life in prison in connection with a drug murder but won release after 30 years for being a model prisoner. He reportedly earned a college degree while incarcerated.

"It is clear that I am not the young man that your honor sentenced 20 years ago," Dixon wrote to now-Senior U.S. District Judge Raymond Dearie in seeking compassionate release. "I am now asking your honor to again take a chance with me and let me re-enter society to prove to myself, my mother, children, family and also the court that I can and will do the right thing upon release," Dixon added. "I blame no one but myself for the road I chose that put me in my current situation. Dixon reportedly had $10,000 in cash in his pocket at the time of his killing.

Who Is Charged?

Taisha Bramwell, 39, who lived with Reeder, faces multiple felony charges and is also in Bergen County Jail. What Happened

Surveillance video shows a man dressed in Hasidic garments appearing to work on a white car on the street in South Ozone Park, Queens, at about 8 a.m. Sept. 6, 2021, when Dixon starts to enter his Ford SUV on the other side of the street. The man can be seen running across the street to attack Dixon. The man appears to shoot Dixon in the head, fumble for something, then run back to his own white Nissan car, get in, and drive away.

"Dixon had the wad of cash in his pocket and the suspect tried to take it but ran off before he could, law enforcement sources said Friday," the New York Post reported on Sept. 10, 2021. "A second person had also been keeping watch and the pair waited several hours for Dixon to walk up to his car, the sources added."

The New York Police Department and Bergen County Regional SWAT Team raided Reeder's and Bramwell's apartment in late February.  Reeder was then extradited to New York City.  He has a criminal record and was in prison before, according to news reports.
