Man Dressed in Hasidic Disguise to Kill Reformed Convict in Botched Robbery, Say Police
Ron Reeder of Teaneck and two accomplices face multiple felony charges in the death of Jermaine Dixon.
Police charged a New Jersey man suspected of wearing Hasidic-style clothing to ambush a reformed murderer, shoot him in the back of the head and kill him in a botched robbery attempt in New York City in 2021. The shocking crime was caught on surveillance video and posted on Twitter. Ron Reeder, 53, was arrested in Teaneck, New Jersey, last month, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said in a news release. Police also arrested two other people on a litany of felony charges. Who Was the Victim?
Jermaine Dixon, 46, had been released from prison less than a year before his death. He was a former member of the Patio Crew in Brooklyn and was sentenced to life in prison in connection with a drug murder but won release after 30 years for being a model prisoner. He reportedly earned a college degree while incarcerated.
"It is clear that I am not the young man that your honor sentenced 20 years ago," Dixon wrote to now-Senior U.S. District Judge Raymond Dearie in seeking compassionate release. "I am now asking your honor to again take a chance with me and let me re-enter society to prove to myself, my mother, children, family and also the court that I can and will do the right thing upon release," Dixon added. "I blame no one but myself for the road I chose that put me in my current situation. Dixon reportedly had $10,000 in cash in his pocket at the time of his killing.
