How Tom Brady Lost 10 Pounds Since Retiring from NFL

He claims his weight loss all comes down to one thing. 

As one of the most celebrated quarterbacks in NFL history, winning Super Bowls well into his forties, there has always been an interest in Tom Brady's approach to health and longevity. In fact, the athlete has built an empire surrounding his approach to diet and fitness, selling everything from branded protein powder to exercise equipment. In a recent interview, the former Mr. Gisele Bundchen revealed that he had lost a whopping 10 pounds after retiring from the NFL, and also, how he did it.

While some people lose weight when they are stressed, according to Brady, he dropped 10 pounds because the pressure was relieved after he decided to retire from football.

"Yeah, I'm down about 10 pounds, but I'm actually very fit right now," the seven-time Super Bowl champion told Larry Fitzgerald and Jim Gray on Monday's episode the "Let's Go" podcast.

"I haven't had the stress that I had while I was playing so that's allowed me to focus a little bit more on my physical health," he continued.

"You could prioritize a lot of other things — career, kids, relationships, family, greater good, community," he said.

However, he claims that there are two things that should come first. "But at the end of the day, physical and mental health should sit at the top of the pyramid."

Earlier This Year His Weight Loss Sparked Concern

In January 2023, Brady's weight loss sparked concern. ESPN reporter Jeff Darlington revealed he had dropped 15 pounds during his final NFL season, which likely had to do with his separation from Gisele.

"Tampa Bay's team struggled this season. There is no doubt the offense never clicked … but Brady also knows his own mental focus was gone for a bulk of the season," he said in a video on Twitter. "His physical stature, faced with 15 pounds of weight loss, was also in peril."

He Has Always Followed a Strict Diet

Brady's diet has been the subject of criticism over the years. He avoids white sugar, dairy, white flour, caffeine, iodized salt, strawberries, and nightshade vegetables.

During an interview with People in July, he revealed he was still following the diet in retirement. "I don't think it's a strict regimen. I think it's just trying to make healthy choices that allow me to live the life I want to live," he said.
