The Real Reason Prince Harry Snubbed William's Offer of Crisis Talks, Claims Royal Author
Harry had one major fear.
Nearly a month has passed since the death of Queen Elizabeth and people around the world are still attempting to piece together exactly what happened in the Royal Family in the aftermath. While some hoped that the funeral and events surrounding the beloved matriarch's death would reunite Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, with the rest of the family, including his brother, Prince William, and father, King Charles. But despite taking part in the public mourning of the Queen, multiple sources have confirmed Harry and Meghan are still very much at odds with the rest of the family. Now, a new book claims that William has been attempting to speak with his brother for years, and even offered to hash things out back in 2019.
In an extract of Valentine Low's recently published Courtiers: The Hidden Power Behind The Crown, the author dives deep into the tarnished relationship between the brothers. She claims that back in 2019, as soon as Meghan's explosive interview with ITV presenter Tom Bradby was aired, William reached out to Harry to talk.
Low claims that William sent Harry a message on WhatsApp. Harry first seemed open to the meeting. However, then he asked who would know about it.
"William explained that he'd have to clear his schedule, which would mean telling his private secretary," she explained. However, Harry was turned off. "At that point, Harry told him: Don't come."
"He was so concerned that William's team would leak the visit to the Press that he would rather not see his brother than risk it getting into the papers," she continued. "To everyone who knew what was going on, this was heartbreaking."
The brothers have been at odds ever since. Some experts maintain that the death of the Queen would have been the perfect setting for reconciliation. "I think it's very sad [that] in the days Harry was here, there was an opportunity given they were just a couple of hundred yards away from each other for a meeting or dinner or gathering of some sort where they could actually just try to thrash things out," The New Royals author Katie Nicholl told Page Six.
