Jamie Foxx Seen in Public First Time Since Hospitalization

The reclusive star had health issues.

Jamie Foxx was rushed to the hospital on April 12th due to a "medical complication" and had not been seen since—until now. Over the weekend, TMZ released footage of Foxx on a boat, smiling and waving to fans. It was the first sighting in months of a man about whom mystery and speculation had been swirling (is he OK? What happened?). "Jamie is doing great," a source "close to Jamie and his camp" told PEOPLE. "He is just taking it easy. He's not really having any visitors or anything like that yet but he's doing really, really well." Read on to see where Foxx, 55, was spotted and to learn the latest about his health.

To quickly recap the situation so far: No one had publicly seen Foxx since he was hospitalized with an unspecified condition. "We wanted to share that, my father, Jamie Foxx, experienced a medical complication yesterday," Foxx's oldest daughter Corinne's statement began, in early April. "Luckily, due to quick action and great care, he is already on his way to recovery."

The sighting is sure to be a relief to fans and colleagues. Even Foxx's co-stars had not heard from Foxx. "No one has heard from Jamie," John Boyega, who stars with Foxx in the upcoming Netflix film They Cloned Tyrone, told Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet premiere for the movie. "I wanted him to show up here, but you know, I know he's dealing with what he's dealing with. I just wish him all the best," he said. "I've been calling, I am just going to keep on calling."

Before his health condition, Foxx was filming the Netflix film Back in Action, meant to be a comeback vehicle for Cameron Diaz. (The two co-starred together in Annie.) Diaz continued filming with Foxx's body double but it's unclear if the film is finished or if Foxx will return. ("@iamjamiefoxx only you could get me back in action! I can't … wait it's gonna be a blast!" Diaz wrote on Instagram in June 2022.) Meanwhile, the TV show he hosts with Corinne, Beat Shazaam, resumed filming but replaced the hosts.
