TV Reporter Gunned Down While Covering Fatal Shooting—5 Latest Facts

Journalists are accustomed to reporting the news. However, this week one news reporter tragically became the news after being killed by the very suspect who he was reporting about. Spectrum 13 reporter Dylan Lyons, 24, was one of three people shot and killed by 19-year-old Keith Melvin Moses in the Pine Hills area of Orlando, Florida. Three People Were Killed and Two Injured
Along with Lyons, Nathacha Augustin, 38, and T'yonna Major, 9 were killed, according to the Orange County sheriff's office. T'yonna's mother and Spectrum photographer Jesse Walden were also shot and injured.
The Suspect Killed Someone in the Morning and Returned Hours Later
At around 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, the suspect shot and killed Augustin, who had allowed Moses into her car on Hialeah Street in Pine Hills. Hours later Lyons and his crew were at the scene reporting on the horrific shooting, when Moses returned to the scene and opened fire, killing the reporter and injuring his photographer, who is in critical condition. He then went to a nearby home where he shot T'yonna and her mother, who is fighting for her life in the hospital.
The Suspect Had a "Lengthy Criminal History"
"At 19, he had a lengthy criminal history to [sic] include gun charges, aggravated battery and assault with a deadly weapon, burglary, and grand theft charges," Orange County Sheriff John Mina said of Moses.
It Is Unclear If He Meant to Kill Journalists
It is unclear as to whether Moses knew he was attacking journalists. "The suspect is not saying much right now," Mina said. "It is unclear if he knew they were news media or not."
The Reporter Was Engaged and Acted as a Father to His Niece and Nephew
Lyons was born and raised in Philadelphia. He attended University of Central Florida and moved to Gainesville to become a reporter, according to Spectrum News. "He took his job very seriously. He loved his career. He loved what he did," Spectrum Sports 360 reporter and Lyon's friend Josh Miller said, according to the outlet. "He loved the community, telling the stories of people, reporting on the news, and he was just passionate about what he did." On a GoFundMe page set up to cover funeral costs, his sister, Rachel, wrote that he was an acting father to his niece and nephew and was engaged to be married.
